SEO vs. PPC: Which Method Do You Need to Work On?

Both search engine optimization and pay per click come under search engine marketing are commonly used by digital marketers for gaining an increased exposure for their brand in addition to expanding the online reach. Everyone today uses search engines for finding the required information on the internet. So it makes sense to target all those users to increase your exposure and sales eventually on the internet. This is where marketers consider using SEO or PPC for increasing the traffic.

SEO and PPC: Basic Overview

SEO is also known as “organic search” is all about optimizing a site and its content for a high ranking in the search results against popular keywords. When selling baby clothes, you will want to target queries such as “baby clothes”, “baby clothing store”, “cheap baby clothes,” along with a city name. SEO also requires the webmaster to properly optimize web pages through coding and creating keyword-focused content which search engines easily categorize for building website back links.

PPC is a method that is about buying an advertising space on the search engine result pages against a particular set of keywords. You are required to pay a specific price-per-click for every user click through to your site as a result of your ad display. For running a PPC campaign, you will have to create ads, plan a budget and target the relevant keywords to gain ad visibility.

Knowing the Difference between UX and UI

UX and UI are common terms in the design field, however, differentiating them is as important for users as it is for designers since many people wrongly consider these terms similar. For a user, the main difference lies in the appearance and functionality of a design. UI is all about the appearance of a website whereas UX is about its experience.

From a designer point of view, you must be clear about the area you need to work on, whether it’s UX, UI or both. You can work on both, but for that, you will have to be exceptionally talented. Designers working on both UX and UI are known as full stack designers. But to work smoothly, you will have to be familiar with these tasks in order to successfully perform as a UI and U designer.

UX designers are those who are mainly concerned with the way their product feels. They have to explore the different ways to solve and address user issues. For creating a good UX, designers need to strictly focus on the logical flow of the product including work on different elements such as design and content. UX designers also need to analyze the user’s interactions with the services/products to evaluate its working.

UI designers also are known as User Interface Designers mainly focus on creating a product instead of improving its experience and feel. This makes UI designers accountable for creating a design deliverable serving the needs of a user. In short, both roles are important to the success of a product, and UX designers are critical for designing a great end product. Medialinkers web design agency highlights the entire main difference that there is between UX and UI.

Social Media Dominating Trends of 2016

Standing out in the social media world is an increasingly difficult experience. 3 years ago in 2012, it was quite difficult to get pictures on Instagram’s discovery page where you can get loads of followers within a few minutes. Instagram today has more than 400 million active users. To stand out in the network and get followed by thousands of followers has become difficult. However, by following new emerging trends, you will be able to have a better reach and influence in the network
.
Similarly, missing out on the emerging trends will reduce your chances of success. Investing more money becomes difficult to close the gap between early newcomers and adopters. Take an example of Nike, which joined Instagram 4 years ago to now stand at an extremely healthy following of 43 million followers without any paid advertising.  On the other hand, Adidas joined the network in 2012 and has only reached a figure of 8 million followers. This means that jumping in at the right time and adapting to the new technologies and trends will help in your growth.

5 Tips to Increasing User Engagement on a Site

A lot of business owners are ready to invest a big time in their online stores and want to keep the bounce rate to as minimum as possible. Wondering what a bounce rate is? Well, a bounce rate is a term used for referring the percentage of users who turn away after viewing the front web page.
Google Analytics is the best source of determining a site’s bounce rate. It will give you an exact idea about the number of users navigating from a site on the basis of the impression a site has on them. Bounce rate is also an important factor to consider not just for enhancing the user experience terms and engagement but also for SEO. It is also one of the most serious issues for multiple sites; however, it can be easily dealt with if effective techniques are worked on.

Given below are some tips shared by Medialinkers web developers Kennesaw to keep in mind for increasing your site’s productivity, while reducing its bounce rate:

1.       Improve Website’s Loading Speed

Website’s speed has become one of the most important factors today. A web user only waits for maximum of 5 seconds for a site to load. If a site takes longer than the 5 seconds then you cannot expect visitors to wait for it. They are certainly going to jump to another site. You can consider this as a way to serve to your competitors to gain an edge over you.

2.       Focus on Quality Instead of Quantity

When learning to focus on quality instead of quantity, you will put your site on the right track. Hire good writers to get quality content to assist in portraying the message to your business prospects while delivering informative stuff to audience relevant to their research. You can also split the lengthy articles into small parts to gain users’ attention at first look.

3.       Make Your Website Mobile Friendly

As the population of users accessing web through mobile device increases at a competitive rate, you need to make sure that your site is accessible across the modern day mobile browsers. Otherwise you will only push your customers away. Getting a site to respond to small screens will increase your conversion rate while improving a brand’s visibility.

4.       Organizing Site Structure

Whether it is an internal or external link, it has to be connected to a landing resource. Try to open external links in a new window. In addition, linking to the relevant articles through your blog will increase your site’s authority.

5.       Easy to Navigate

Many designers forget that the navigation needs to be understood easily in trying to achieve something unique. More often than not, it can lead to something disastrous. This is why; you need to keep your site’s navigation clear, understandable and easily accessible to make sure the visitors don’t find it confusing.

Follow the above mentioned workable tips shared by Kennesaw web developers to make your business site engaging and interesting for the targeted audience.

7 Common Terms Used in the Digital Design Industry

Every person has the potential to become a designer. They can understand the basic design principles whether they know it or not. For instance, when approaching a door, you will clearly know if you have to push or pull it open. You push or pull a door according to the icons displayed on it.
There are moments where a handle is not labeled correctly as a push or pull, causing confusion for the public, who think about if it could be designed better. Similarly, there are specific terms in the web design world, which everyone must know even if they are not a designer, to be better connected with their site design and its usability. A few important design terms are shared by the Medialinkers webdesign team:

1.       User Interface (UI)

The interface n a computer screen refers to the LOGIN button to your favorite site as it open its virtual door to it. The LOGIN button makes it easy for you to enter a site and the background behind it makes everything easy on the digital screen to become part of the site’s user interface. The User Interface needs to be created the same way a physical object or space is treated. It has to be super intuitive, direct and clean in purpose.

2.       Usability

When taking the interface into consideration, there is another method which makes interaction of user interface and user possible.  This communication between the two is called “user experience” and usability” of the interface measures how successful the interaction is between both parties.  If you are not able to navigate successfully through a site, then that is called a bad user experience. Pin pointing the weaknesses of a specific User Experience is a key to increasing the user conversions and its effectiveness.

3.       Visual Hierarchy

When entering any building, the first thing you need to see is its entrance. Second is to see the entrance name where as third is to see if you are pushing, swiping, pulling, scanning a retina or hastening through the door for entering the building. Visual hierarchy makes sure that you do not see the PULL lettering in large letters before knowing the door to enter through in the first place.
Visual hierarchy is about guiding the users through user experience, taking a narrative form about what will happen next.

4.       User Conventions

Another great way is to think about a design convention by understanding the benefits of consistency. Every time a doorway method to open a building changes, minutes and seconds of time is spent unlearning the previous method and for learning the new one. This comes under inconsistency which can be fixed by maintaining conventions.

If a door had a same push bar to push and pull a door then it becomes hard to forget how to open any door. This consistency is also called convention and saves many people a lot of time into thinking twice about it. Another term to refer it is known as UI pattern.

You need to research great looking designs and embed the similarities between these campaigns and designs you see and respond t in your designs.  These will layout these in your design.

5.       Intuitive Designs

Ever tried pulling a door which has no handle and just a flat metal panel? Most cases, the design of the door is such that your only intuitive option is to push the door. This design type is called affordance as it makes the available options obvious to process to the users. The elements displayed on the page needs to behave in accordance with how things feel like they need to behave naturally.

6.       Responsive

This is quite easy to explain. You may have pets at your home and whenever they walk in to your home, they use a small vent in the door, installed to meet their small body needs. Same is the case with a website design. It has to be different in size for a desktop, tablet and Smartphone screen. A good design needs to behave according to the different device sizes and screens.

7.       Minimalism

Take example of door again. If you have installed features that allow push on one side and pull on another, you have created an intuitive and minimalist design. Simplicity in a digital design helps to avoid unnecessary details and confusion at the same time.

You can also gain knowledge from Kennesaw web design experts about the common terms used in web design.

3 Steps to Ensuring a Foolproof SEO strategy

Search Engine Optimization, strategy is important to place you on the Google’s first page results. With a proper SEO plan in place, you can get the keywords on front page, however, without it; it would become difficult for you.
3 most common and crippling mistakes to avoid are as follow:

1.       Right Keywords

Determining the right keywords for you and your organization is difficult, when working in a populated category. Common keyword related mistakes include single-word keywords instead of long-tail keywords. When using single-word keywords or highly popular keywords, you can get lost in results which appear after a general search.  When you can’t compete with a company on a large budget, it is important for your SEO strategy to find the right keyword path.
For finding the right keywords, don’t get too broad or too specific. When optimizing a keyword, potential customers will give a hard time finding the lost seekers of a different service. However, don’t pick the keywords which no one searches on. Choose that describe your organization well and are broad enough to be typed in the search bar.

2.       Not Using Digital Marketing Tools

The digital marketing tools will help you see what works and what doesn’t. Everything from the analytic tracking to goal trackers come under the data visualization tools, important to make your SEO efforts succeed. When only measuring the SEO strategy success through increase in business, you will not get the results you have anticipated. Optimization of web content takes time with continuous efforts and improvements.
The tools give you the ability to understand and track the SEO side you haven’t seen before to measure results beyond a standard business increase. The tools offer information about the number of visitors on a site including the potential keywords to work better for a business.
Getting help from online marketing program and tools are important for creating a strong SEO strategy. These technological changes help in increasing the comprehension of site’s effect on the hardware it interacts with. Make sure a site is updated and you adjust and adapts to it.

3.       Targeting your Customers

Targeting the wrong audience will not increase your business even if your SEO strategy puts you on top on the results page. Similarly, if you're not appearing in the results for the correct audience, those searching for your business won't be able to find you. When you don’t understand or base your strategy on finding customers, then it’s going to fail for you.
As a thumb rule, check your bounce rate. If the number if high then you are ranking for wrong keywords and need adjustment. Plan out your targeted customers as an old customer won’t search the web the way a teenager would, so your keywords must target the most relevant audience.

You can also reach out to the experts of Medialinkers SEO agency to plan and run the SEO campaign for your needs.

He also added that Google has different ways for detecting spam but still considers “User generated spam reports” as a priority to fight spam. However, the 65% ratio is only due to Google reliance on other spam fighting methods as not all users are good at user generated spam reporting.

12 Hacks to Increase Your WordPress Site Speed

WordPress, the most popular CMS available today is used for building all types of websites such as eCommerce, social network, business sites etc. However, the only downside of using WordPress is its speed, since most of the WordPress sites are slow compared to other sites. As site speed is an important ranking factor for websites in the search engines, it is critical to sort this issue. Here are 12 tips to assist you in improving a WordPress site speed for the best user experience.

1.    Go for a Good Hosting Service

The web hosting service you choose affects the loading speed of your site.   A good web hosting company is still important if your website isn’t running on WordPress. A number of web hosting companies provide competitive web hosting packages, so research around to find the right one for your business.

2.    Use a CDN

CDN stands for a content delivery network, a system of distributed servers that offers web resources and web pages to users based on their geographic location. CDN copies the CSS, JavaScript and media files of your website to render them quickly to the users.

3.    Install a Cache Plugin

Cache is a temporary storage space to store content such as web pages, images, and files etc. It helps to load web contents quickly for the users, reducing site speed time by a great amount.  There are various WordPress Plugins available to implement caching of a WordPress site. W3 Total Cache and WP Super Cache are the most popular WordPress cache Plugins.

4.    Compress CSS and JavaScript Files

You can minify your website CSS and JavaScript files to compress their original size to a minimum possible size to render them quickly on the browser. You can either use YUI Compress, a manual compressing system or a WP Minify for an automatic compression of your CSS and JS files.

5.    Compress Large Images

Large images also contribute to the slow speed of a site. Use WP SmushIt plugin to reduce the size of large images without comprising on quality.

6.    Compress Entire Website

Website Compression turns all site content into a Zip file. When a client requests a web page, his/her browser acts like a WINRAR application to fetch and show the page contents to the user. This may sound like hard work, but it is simple to implement and works really well.
W3 Total Cache is a good option to use for site compression. Go to Admin Page -> Performance -> Browser Cache -> Enable HTTP (gzip) Compression.

7.    Optimize Website Database

WordPress database saves everything automatically such as trackbacks, pingbacks, trashed items, comments marked as spam and even the unapproved comments. This causes a WordPress database to fragmentize like a system hard drive.  A couple of good plugins to optimize your database are WP-Optimize and WP-DB Manager.

8.    Install Good Plug-ins only

Plugins also add a lot of junk to your site files.  Only keep the ones critical to your site performance to reduce site load time.

9.    Disable Pingbacks and Trackbacks

Pingbacks and Trackbacks are simple notifications sent to a site, every time it gets mentioned by someone on the internet.
Go to Admin Page ->Settings -> Discussion and uncheck the first two checkboxes to turn this feature off. It will not harm your site performance

10.    Always Select a Good Theme

Not all WordPress themes are coded equally. Some are fast and some are sloppy.  Observe the load speed time of theme’s demo to get an idea about its impact on your site load time.

11.    Optimize Site Home Page Structure

Keep your homepage optimized to show a minimum number of widgets and post excerpts. This would not only enhance your site speed but would also make for a great user experience.

12.    Enable “Keep-Alive” Feature

HTTP Keep-Alive uses Transmission Control Protocol to send multiple HTTP requests, instead of opening a new connection for every request. Your web host might already have this implemented, but if not, you can copy this line in your .htaccess to enable the Keep-Alive feature.

WordPress vs. Static HTML Site: Which One is a Better Choice?

Every business today has a website for marketing it services online. People who research on different technologies often ask the difference between a static HTML site and a WP developed site. This article covers the difference between a static HTML site and a WordPress site in detail from a layman’s point of view.

WordPress

WordPress, the most powerful blogging platform is actually a content management system that helps in managing a site through its easy to use interface.  You can fully control your site from the admin area even if you have no technical knowledge or programming experience. This is what makes WordPress extremely popular world over.
You also need to understand that WordPress.org and WordPress.com are separate and have different meanings altogether. The .com domain is a free blog hosting service whereas .org is an open source CMS used by web developers and web designers for building customized blogs and sites.

Pros

1.       Easy to Maintain

Instead of paying a web developer, you can maintain and update anything on your own. Just log into your admin panel and click on the relevant section to make the necessary changes.

2.       Multiple Themes

A wide range of premium and free WP themes are available to use on a site. Select and install the one that suits your business needs to have a site ready within a few hours.

3.       Enhance Functionality

You can also enhance your site’s functionality by installing a few popularly used plugin extensions. WP plugins used on almost every site includes contact form plugin, reservation system plugin, a photo gallery and more.

4.       Control over a Site

WP allows you to control your site completely. From the domain name, information, images and blogs, you can change or add anything you want, to increase your site’s trust, popularity, traffic and sales over time. In short, it puts you in charge of your site.

Cons

5.       Requires Learning

WordPress is easy to understand for everyone, however, it still requires a bit of learning for getting around it. Some effort is needed to overcome the learning curve in a short amount of time. A lot of help is available on internet to get you going in no time at all.

6.       Requires Active Maintenance

WordPress as an open source platform releases new CMS, plug-ins and theme updates continuously. This means that you need to manage it on your own. As a quick fix, you can hire Medialinkers managed WP hosting in Kennesaw services to deal with it on your behalf.

Static HTML Site

Static HTML site is built using front end web languages such as HTML, CSS and JavaScript. HTML is the markup language used for displaying web pages in combination with CSS and JavaScript that are responsible for styling and animation respectively.  For building a static HTML site, you will need to hire a programmer.  Unlike WP or other content management systems which use database for storing content, HTML has all the information stored statically without a database.

Pros

7.       No Need to Worry About Maintenance

After your site is live, you don’t need to install or create any backups on a regular basis. You just have to backup your site and forget it.

8.       Fewer Requirements

HTML sites don’t require installation of dynamic languages such as PHP or MySQL on servers. They run cheaply without any resources. However, many good web hosting firms provide support for PHP & MySQL.

Cons

9.       Difficult to Update

Unless, you have HTML, CSS and JS knowledge you cannot add or change anything on a site without hiring a developer or a designer, even to deal with small tasks such as addition of new pages, updating old content or removing or adding new images and videos.

10.   Additional Features

For growing you site into an eCommerce store or something else, you again have to depend on the expertise of a web developer to do it for you. For this reason, most of the web developers recommend moving to WP as a solution.

11.   Expensive

Static sites don’t cost a lot of money at start, but execution of small tasks through a professional web developer makes it an expensive choice to opt for in the long run.

Which Platform to Choose?

If you want a site that you don’t want to update regularly, you can go with static HTML. However, if you want to have a complete control over your site and plan to enhance it at some point in time, don’t hesitate in selecting WordPress as an optimum solution. With WordPress, you can add a blog section; add several plugins and tools to grow your site every day.

It is easy to get started with a WP business site. All you need to do is to sign up with a good web hosting company such as Medialinkers web hosting services and then either ask them to develop a site from scratch or select a theme and have it customized by hiring their web developers in Atlanta.
